I don’t get what you’re actually saying but fishes cannot drown because they were created in a way they wouldn’t drown, by that I mean that fishes were made to swim in water therefore they cannot drown. But your point could also be taken into consideration, but they never said what TYPE of fish they were talking about so it could have also been a deep sea fish, for example the fang-tooth fish. So a deep sea fish wouldn’t possibly swim 6,500 feet away from where he lives just to get oxygen.so yeah.(-_-) •. No, he is correct, but you weren’t far off either. In fact, oxygen dissolves in water, and when there is not enough oxygen in the water, they drown, as such, fish can drown, and many have. Because they are inhaling water, which doesn’t have sufficient oxygen to allow them to live (through cellular respiration and what not), and therefore die as a result. Just like with humans, we’re not essentially dying immediately because of the excessive intake of water, quite the opposite, it’s the fact that it results in us not being able to absorb any oxygen into our bloodstream (through our lungs, into our capillaries, which then travels around the body allowing for a process called cellular respiration to occur).

So, alas, like I said before, the commenter who said they can die from drowning is correct. But I can see your point too, and it was a good observation never the less on your part. Also, please correct me if I am in any way wrong about the human part, as I’m sure there are other factors into why we die so quickly from drowning (not just the lack of oxygen in our bloodstream). Yeah I know that xD I’m just saying that they didn’t say what type of fish it could have been. For example:clown fish’s need oxygen to survive and have access to that since they are near the waters surface however a deep sea creature such as the Fang-tooth fish doesn’t have access to that oxygen since it lives 6,500 feet below so they probably evolved in a way where they don’t have to swim 6,500 feet up to the surface just to get oxygen.
